Wedding Ceremonies
For Couples Who Want A Wedding That’s All About Them!
That might sound like an obvious statement, but it’s worth repeating - your wedding ceremony should encapsulate your personalities, your story, and your unique love. No standard templates, no obligation to follow ‘traditions’ you’ve outgrown or don’t make sense for you any more. A bespoke ceremony that’ll make your guests say with a smile “that’s so them”.
Maybe you’re a theatre geek, a fandom member, or you met through a mutual love of ghost stories, stand up comedy, or a favourite band.
You're open-minded, curious, and not afraid of something a little magical. You might want the folklore of your home woven through your ceremony, or handfasting under the stars, or a ceremony at midnight in front of a roaring fire.
You might want high-drama Rocky Horror energy, or quiet, intimate communal magic.
Whoever you are, whoever you love, whatever you both desire, I can help you craft a ceremony that feels thrillingly, unmistakably, you.
What's Included in Your Wedding Ceremony
-
Unlimited contact and planning:
We'll meet face-to-face (at your home or favourite local) and you’lltell me all about your love story (I love this bit!), your vision for your wedding, and all the little details that matter to you.
-
Personalised ceremony script:
I'll craft a bespoke ceremony that tells your story beautifully. This typically includes your vows (which we'll work on together), readings, symbolic rituals, and any special elements you want to include (for example: folklore, fandom bits, favourite quotes from Schitt’s Creek).
-
Ceremony delivery:
I'll arrive early on the day, coordinate with your venue and suppliers, and deliver your ceremony with warmth, humour, and a little touch of drama (not to brag but I have a 2:! In Theatre Practice from the University of Central Lancashire, so you could say I know my way around a captive audience).
-
Script revisions:
You'll have the chance to review and tweak before the big day.
-
Printed ceremony script:
A gawjus keepsake of your ceremony for your mantlepiece / office / downstairs loo).
-
Post-ceremony catch-up:
We’ll have a chat a few days later to make sure it was everything you dreamed of and more.

Types of Weddings I Love
-
Themed Weddings
Murder mystery weddings, true crime ceremonies, gothic celebrations, literary-inspired rites, fantasy worlds brought to life. If you can dream it, we can build it.
-
Outdoor and Woodland Ceremonies
Ceremonies in possibly haunted woodlands, on windswept hilltops, beside rivers, under ancient trees. Perfect for nature lovers and anyone who wants the elements called and present.
-
Midnight Rites
Who says ceremonies have to happen during the day? Midnight ceremonies, sunset rites, ceremonies whispered by candle and moonlight.
-
Folklore and Witchy Weddings
Handfasting, burning rituals, seasonal celebrations, elements of British and Welsh folklore (or any indigenous to your heritage), magical workings woven through your ceremony.
-
Second and Third Weddings
Second time down the aisle? Third? More? Fantastic. Let’s celebrate the nest chapter of your story.
-
Child-Free and Child-Friendly
Whether you want an adults-only ceremony or want to involve children in your rites, I'll create a ceremony that works perfectly for your vision.
-
LGBTQIA+ Ceremonies
All love is welcome. Let's celebrate yours.
-
Sober Celebrations
I'm happily sober myself, so I'm especially well-suited to creating joyful, meaningful celebrations where no one’s rushing to the bar as soon as the couples kiss.
Why Choose Me as Your Wedding Celebrant
I’ve been helping people tell stories one way or another - through books, theatre, journalism, small-scale art projects and nationwide tours of comedy and opera - for over fifteen years. I’m the author of the best-selling My Sh*t Therapist and other mental health stories, an occasional BBC broadcaster, and I believe that ceremonies are genuinely magical transformative moments that mark change, and should be joyful, moving collective experiences, not dull Ted Talk to endure before getting to the pub.
I weave your unique love story with glimmers of folklore, magic, and ritual. This might look like a crystal in your pocket (mild magic spice), a handfasting (mild to medium), or hot spicy magic with burning herbs, casting a circle, calling in the elements. It’s entirely up to you.
(Don’t worry about ‘believing in’ anything - you may, you may not, you may have questions, either way you’re allowed to be entertained and and to commemorate the biggest moment in your life using the same abundant tools and language that have been used for millenia the world over).
Expect metaphor, wonder, whimsy. I work with couples who love theatre, literature, music, and aren't afraid of a bit of dramatic flair.
I'm Welsh and speak Welsh (Cymraeg), so I'm perfect for anyone wanting to weave Welsh language, history, or folklore into their ceremony. I'm also sober and child-free by choice, making me especially well-suited to sober gatherings and child-free or child-friendly celebrations alike.
Everyone is welcome. Let’s make something magical together that’s make your guests say “Wow! You can do THAT at a wedding?!”.
What Couples Say
Author, bon vivant and bone fide firecracker...if you'd like a cliche-free special occasion, be it happy or sad, you should chat to Michelle.
A wonderful celebrant...Michelle really listens, she's dynamic and thoughtful, I've been at ease with her from the moment we first met.
Wedding Ceremony FAQs
Can we get legally married in a celebrant ceremony?
In England and Wales, celebrant-led ceremonies aren't currently legally binding (hopefully this will change soon), so you'll need to do the legal bit separately at a registry office. Most couples do this beforehand (often just the two of you and witnesses for about £250) then have their real celebration with me. The legal bit takes 10 minutes – your ceremony with me is where all the fun stuff happens.
Where can we have our ceremony?
Anywhere you like! Woodland, beach, your garden, a gothic manor, a pub, a hilltop, under Clifton Suspension Bridge. If it means something to you, we can make it work.
What if it rains?
We'll have a backup plan. Umbrellas can be magical. And honestly, some of the most atmospheric ceremonies happen in the rain.
Can we include elements from different traditions?
Absolutely. Handfasting, jumping the broom, breaking glass, rose ceremonies, unity candles – mix and match whatever resonates with you, or we can create something completely unique..
